PrecariCorps, Helping Adjuncts Pay the BillsAs of August 18, 2016, we have been able to financially support 19 adjuncts through our Hardship Relief and Grants for Faculty Development funds. We currently have a wait list of around nine faculty members, so please be aware that we will not be able to assist you with funds immediately.

To apply for one of our programs and add your name to our wait list, email apply@precaricorps.org with all of the following information:

Basic Info: Your name, home address, email, and phone number. Please note that PrecariCorps shall not share this information with anyone, and we will protect your privacy in perpetuity.

Workplaces: Tell us about each of your workplaces, including name, type of school (community college, state university, private non-profit, private for-profit), department, how many years you’ve worked there, what courses you generally teach, your average number of courses per semester, your average pay per course, and what, if any, benefits you receive there (such as professional development). Please note that we will be archiving this information on a private spreadsheet for our Foundation’s records, and that it may be used in future research studies, pending your approval. We shall contact you for approval prior to using this information for studies. Without your consent, this information will remain private to the Foundation.

Program: We have two funding programs for precarious faculty, but we shall only offer each qualifying applicant a one-time donation for one of our programs. Currently, our maximum donation is $500, so please prioritize your needs accordingly and choose the program that would best benefit you. Note to which program you are applying, and include the according information.

  1. Hardship Relief Fund: If you are applying as a recipient of our Hardship Relief Fund, please list a breakdown of your monthly bills, including company owed, amount due, and late balance, if any. Please make special note of the one that you would be most interested in us to pay as a one-time donation. This makes it easier for us to distribute the funds accordingly. Please note that we respect your need for privacy in this area, and that we shall not share this information with anyone.
  2. Grants for Faculty Development: If you are applying as a recipient of our Grant for Faculty Development Fund, please tell us the name of the faculty development opportunity, the dates of the opportunity, the hosting institution, the cost, and how it relates to your professional field.

Narrative: Please provide us with a brief narrative on how you envision this support helping you, your family, your students, and your campus community. Please let us know if we are free to share your story, and what information we should keep anonymous, if so.

Optional True Story: If you wish, please provide us with a brief 300-500 word true story of adjunct life, focusing on the daily struggles you face at home, at work, psychologically, emotionally, or any other place where your precarity deals you a significant blow. We collect these for our website, so please let us know if you are comfortable with us sharing this on our True Stories page, making sure to tell us what name and school (if any) you feel comfortable using. We’re happy to protect your anonymity.

Please note that all of our funding programs are reliant upon the generosity of our donors, so take a moment to share our Donate page with your friends, family, and colleagues.
